7.3.15 - Bird Walks - Camp Wingate*Kirkland - Yarmouthport, MA

Fortunately for me, I met a wonderful family when they attended the indoor mini-golf fundraiser at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History back in December.  Turns out, they run Camp Wingate*Kirkland in Yarmouthport, right in my own town!  We chatted and what-do-ya-know...?  I get to lead bird walks on their spectacular campgrounds for nature-loving campers!  I also am working with them to establish a Nature & Bird Club at camp!  Pretty cool stuff!  The habitat that this camp offers for birds is fairly impressive, so I've been excited to take to the grounds to see and hear, what we'd be able to see and hear!  We were not disappointed in our findings and the birds certainly did not seem to mind us watching and listening to them.  We also observed and discussed two different types of oak trees and pine trees as we discussed healthy bird habitats and what exactly that means.  During our second walk, a ten year old, who is wise beyond her years I feel, said something I HAD to write down and post on this blog.  I forget exactly why she said it, but I LOVED IT!  She said, "Some people say that animals don't have feelings...so why do we?"
I look forward to the bird walks I get to enjoy with these smart and interesting campers having the summer of their lives!  Don't miss one of Camp W*K's mascots... Z!  (double click photos to enlarge)
