It was another wonderful morning with the young bird nerds! Birds are inspirational in so many ways and they truly make the world a more beautiful place. I just love the nest box painting project and everyone who picks up a paint brush to paint a nest box, is excited to decorate for the birds! I always mention that I hope I get some photos back from some of them so I can post a photo of who the new residents might be. Not all birds build nests within a cavity, which is what a bird house provides. Some though will use them to seek shelter from a storm. Bird houses decorate the world for our bird friends. It's a way I thoroughly enjoy giving back to nature. I also ADORE the artwork that is created by children. There is something very pure about it, especially when it's about having fun.
I would have to say that the Gray Catbird has been the star of our avian show so far this week. They surround us wherever we travel on the property and I think the young bird nerds have learned what they sound like. They are very chatty, in fact, one of the KidSummer bird nerds commented about just that, and another agreed... stating that it made sense, because it's "Greeting Season". : )
We got in another great bird walk, including some new species we hadn't seen or heard before. The Bird Nerd Salute was in action frequently on the trail, whenever other hikers passed. It was a treat! (double click photos to enlarge)
