5.8.17  Bird Walk  Bells Neck Conservation Area
Harwich, MA

I've been fortunate to have been included in a unique and wonderful group of entrepreneurs over the past several months.  One of the ways I wanted to give back as a gift to the support they've given me, was a bird walk... on me.  We had to reschedule because last Monday the weather was just drizzly and lousy.  Today was bright and beautiful, but deceptively COLD with the wind!  I always carry spare hats, gloves & sweatshirt in such a case, so off we went once we were bundled up enough!

I chose Bells Neck Conservation Area because of its diversity, beauty and basically... guaranteed birds, and LOTS of 'em! This morning did not disappoint!  Once we were off on the bridge it was species after species, so many in the first 10 minutes I needed to take a minute to write them all down!  What was especially fun for me was that none of these new friends of mine had ever been on a bird walk and they were eager to be outside in the sunshine, with binoculars to see what they could see, even if that meant viewing the fishermen out on the marsh! : )  We saw &/or heard 27 species of bird! (and two or three fishermen...)

I wanted to incorporate some of my learning materials that I use with other groups of all ages so that I could help them learn how to identify which species and why.  They asked me how I got into this... basically by being obsessed really.  I just love sharing the outdoors with people who want to be out there in it, appreciating all of the things that go on when we're not in an office, on a screen, or worried about our day to day concerns.  Nature can be a magical escape that way, and the birds are such a connection to that magic.  We had a spectacular time together!
