6.1.15 - For The Birds Enrichment - Wixon Innovation School - Dennis, MA

The weather was drizzling and it was cold - no kind of weather to go scouting around a schoolyard with binoculars looking for birds.  I let each student choose a particular bird to focus on from the materials I have so they could draw "their" bird and then write down information about that particular species:  Size, wingspan, habitat, field marks, behavior, food, nest information...
Essentially they each created their own bird card for the bird they chose.  I'm always interested in finding out who chooses which bird and why, although I didn't ask why.  They were focused on their artwork!  Wait 'til you see it!  They EACH did a beautiful job!  I also explained that once you know any one, or a few, common birds very well, you will quickly recognize a "new to you" species because something about it will catch your eye, and if you're interested, you'll wonder - "Who's That Bird?".  Then... you're hooked.  Enjoy the artwork from these inspired students...
