8.8.17 KidSummer - Birding 101 - Cape Cod Museum of Natural History
Brewster, MA

I LOVE surprises, and Tuesday morning is when I typically surprise the Bird Nerds with their brand new binoculars.  It's awesome getting the reaction because they are theirs to keep and they immediately start looking forward to using them on our bird walk!

The weather started off a bit iffy, but it was the perfect temperature to hike to the beach. When you're looking and listening for birds, it is often the case that your distance becomes limited.  If there are several birds where you are, then you don't have to go far... but the ocean calls to me.  It always has, and I like to believe it does the same to many in our group.  Off to the beach we went and we were able to add a few new species to our sightings: We also got to finally SEE a Northern Cardinal.  He was happily & loudly singing away atop a tree.  Every Bird Nerd got a great glimpse of him.

When we arrived on the dunes, I decided it was time to pass along the Bird Nerd Salute!  I just LOVE the photo I got of everyone doing just that!  Cracks me up.  They all looked just perfect and we had some wonderful views of gulls and terns and even a sneak peak at a Snowy Egret!  All the Bird Nerds did a good job of logging their sighting and recording information about the bird of their choice.  Well done!
